How it is worked out
- 1State Pension age is 66 for most people born before April 1960, rises a month at a time for people born between April 1960 and March 1961, and is 67 for those born after.
- 2In the NHS 2015 scheme, your normal pension age is your State Pension age, or 65 if that is later.
- 3The older 1995 section has a normal pension age of 60, and the 2008 section 65.
Worth knowing
- You can take your NHS pension before normal pension age, but it is reduced for being paid early.
- Many members have benefits in more than one section, each with its own pension age.
Common questions
Is the NHS pension age the same as the State Pension age?+
For the 2015 scheme, yes, unless your State Pension age is under 65. Older sections have their own fixed ages of 60 or 65.
