How it is worked out

  1. 1Your tier is set by your actual pensionable pay, so part-time staff are placed on what they really earn, not the full-time rate.
  2. 2Contributions are taken before income tax. The tax you would otherwise have paid on that money is your tax relief.
  3. 3The real cost is your contribution minus that tax relief.

Worth knowing

  • Your employer also pays into the scheme on top of your contribution. That amount does not come out of your pay.
