How it is worked out
- 1Up to 39 weeks of statutory pay can be shared. Weeks the birth parent has already had as maternity pay come off the total.
- 2Each parent is paid at the statutory weekly rate, or 90% of their own earnings if that is lower.
- 3NHS staff who qualify for occupational maternity pay can get occupational shared parental pay at the same level instead.
Worth knowing
- The birth parent must take at least 2 weeks of maternity leave after the birth before switching.
- Each parent must meet the service and earnings tests for statutory pay.
