How it is worked out
- 1You get one month's pay for each full year of continuous NHS service, up to a maximum of 24 months.
- 2A month's pay is the better of one twelfth of your yearly salary or 4.35 weeks' pay.
- 3Salaries are counted as at least £23,000 and at most £80,000 a year, scaled down for part-time hours.
Worth knowing
- Part years of service do not count.
- Staff aged 50 or over with enough pension membership may be able to take early retirement instead. Ask your pension adviser.
Common questions
Does service with other NHS employers count?+
Usually yes, as long as there was no break of more than 12 months and the service was not already used for an earlier redundancy payment.
