Your details
How much each year counts towards your degree
Many universities use 30% for year 2 and 70% for year 3. Check your course handbook.
Weighted average
67.6%
Upper second (2:1)
- Year 2 (60 credits, counts 30%)
- 62.0%
- Year 3 (80 credits, counts 70%)
- 70.0%
- Projected classification
- Upper second (2:1)
Marks are averaged by credits within each year, then combined using the year weightings. The usual UK boundaries are 70% for a first, 60% for a 2:1, 50% for a 2:2 and 40% for a third. Your university's rules, such as discounting your lowest marks or borderline policies, decide your final classification. Passing every practice placement is also required for NMC registration.
How it is worked out
- 1Add each module with its credits, mark and year of study.
- 2Marks are averaged by credits within each year, then combined using how much each year counts.
- 3The average is matched to the usual UK boundaries: 70% first, 60% 2:1, 50% 2:2 and 40% third.
Worth knowing
- Many universities weight year 2 at 30% and year 3 at 70%, but check your course handbook.
- Practice placements are usually pass or fail and must all be passed for NMC registration.
Common questions
What mark do I need for a first in nursing?+
A weighted average of 70% or more. Some universities also award a first for marks just below 70% under borderline rules.
Does first year count towards my degree?+
At most UK universities it does not, as long as you pass. Set year 1 to 0% if that applies to you.
