How it is worked out

  1. 1Enter how many results met the standard and how many did not. Not applicable results are left out.
  2. 2Compliance is compliant ÷ (compliant + not compliant) × 100.
  3. 3Set your own green and amber cut-offs to match your audit, and see how many more compliant results you need for green.

Worth knowing

  • Common uses include hand hygiene, documentation, NEWS2, falls and pressure ulcer audits.
  • Cut-offs differ between trusts and audits.

Common questions

How do you calculate audit compliance?+

Divide the number of compliant results by all assessed results, leaving out any not applicable, then multiply by 100. 18 out of 20 is 90%.

What is a red, amber, green (RAG) rating?+

A traffic-light score against targets. A common pattern is green at 95% or more, amber from 85% and red below that, but trusts set their own.
